Skin tag, mole, wart removal Treatments
Skin lesions such as skin tags, moles, and warts are incredibly common and, in most cases, completely benign. They can appear at any age, on virtually any part of the body, and for a wide variety of reasons — from genetics and hormonal changes to friction, viral infection, and sun exposure. Whilst they pose no medical risk in the vast majority of cases, they can have a surprisingly significant impact on how people feel about their skin and their appearance, particularly when they occur in prominent positions on the face, neck, or hands.
We understand that seeking treatment for something a GP may have dismissed as cosmetic can feel like a minor concern to raise — but it is not minor if it is affecting your confidence or your daily comfort. Many of our clients have lived with skin tags that snag on necklaces and bra straps for years, or warts that cause embarrassment in social situations, or moles in visible positions that they have always felt self-conscious about. These are entirely valid reasons to seek removal, and our team will always treat your concerns with the seriousness and care they deserve.
Skin Tags
Skin tags (acrochordons) are small, soft, flesh-coloured growths that hang from the skin on a narrow stalk. They are entirely benign and are most commonly found on the neck, underarms, groin, and eyelids — areas where skin rubs against skin or clothing. They are more common in adults, particularly those with diabetes or who are overweight, and tend to increase in number with age. Skin tags are harmless but can become irritated, bleed if caught, and are frequently a source of cosmetic concern, particularly when they appear on visible areas of the face and neck.
Moles
Moles (melanocytic naevi) are pigmented lesions that develop when melanocytes cluster together in the skin. Most people have between 10 and 40 moles by adulthood, and the vast majority are entirely benign. Moles can be flat or raised, smooth or rough, and range in colour from pale brown to near black. Whilst most moles are stable and harmless, it is important that any mole considered for removal is first assessed by a trained practitioner to confirm it is safe to treat. We will always carry out a thorough visual assessment before proceeding, and will refer you to a dermatologist or GP if there are any features that warrant further investigation.
It is important to be aware of the ABCDE rule when monitoring your own moles: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Colour variation, Diameter greater than 6mm, and Evolution (any change in size, shape, or colour). If any of your moles display these characteristics, please seek a medical assessment before pursuing cosmetic removal.
Warts & Verrucas
Warts are benign skin growths caused by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV), which infects the top layer of the skin and causes cells to grow rapidly. They can appear anywhere on the body and vary in appearance depending on their type and location — common warts are typically rough, raised lesions on the hands and fingers, whilst verrucas (plantar warts) occur on the soles of the feet and can be pushed flat by the pressure of walking, sometimes causing significant discomfort. Warts are contagious and can spread to other parts of the body or to other people through direct contact, making timely treatment a sensible choice.
Other Benign Lesions
In addition to skin tags, moles, and warts, we are also able to assess and treat a range of other common benign lesions, including seborrhoeic keratoses (age spots or barnacles), milia, dermatofibromas, and sebaceous cysts, subject to assessment. If you have a lesion that concerns you or that you would simply like removed and are unsure whether it falls within our remit, please do not hesitate to get in touch or book a consultation — we are always happy to take a look and advise.
